A community run football club has received a funding boost from housebuilder Persimmon Homes through its national Community Champions scheme.
Insulators FC is based at Paddock Wood, Kent, where Persimmon’s sister company Charles Church is building Mascalls Grange, a collection of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom new homes.
Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme is a national match-funding programme that seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment for local people. It has donated £1,000 to Insulators FC to help pay for kit bags and training tops.
Paul Smith, from the football club, said: “Wow, this is great news, thank you Persimmon.
“Insulators FC are a local, community run football club and this year we celebrate our 50th anniversary – not something many local teams can boast of as so many teams fold due to financial issues.
“Last season we expanded to include a veterans’ team and hope to grow further, drawing on new residents living at Paddock Wood. We hold regular race and quiz nights to raise money in order to meet overheads and buy new equipment and £1,000 from the Community Champions scheme will is a real boost to this season’s fundraising.
“Support like this is hard to come by and we can’t thank Persimmon enough for their donation.”
Martin Crick, sales director at Persimmon Homes South East, said: “We are delighted to select Insulators FC as part of our Community Champions initiative.
“It’s clear that the football club provides great sporting opportunities for the local community.
“We have experienced a fantastic response to our Community Champions initiative, and it is always a difficult task to pick our winners each month.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again, hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
