Residents at Featherton House care home in Deddington have received handmade Christmas cards from children at Helmdon Primary School.
The ‘Panda’ class four-year-olds have been learning to hold their pencils correctly and have been practicing writing their names. The youngsters put their skills to the test and wrote their names and special Christmas messages for the residents.
The cards were hand designed with Christmas themed pictures on the front, which the residents have proudly displayed throughout the home.
One of the residents who thoroughly enjoyed receiving a card was 75-year-old, Jean Waddup.
Jean said: “It was so lovely to receive the Christmas cards from the children at Helmdon Primary School. I thoroughly enjoyed reading through the cards and their writing is fantastic!
“I will be writing a card back to the children, they are so precious! I hope they all have a lovely Christmas.”
Mrs Caren Whitehouse, Teaching Assistant at Helmdon Primary School, said: “The children really enjoyed writing the Christmas cards to the residents at Featherton House. We have been working very hard and have been practicing our handwriting skills, and they have felt very proud to be able to show them off.
“Creating connections with people in our community is very important, particularly people of an older generation, as they can bring out some lovely traits in children including kindness and compassion.”
