Housebuilder Mulberry Homes has donated £700 to Bicester Widows and Widowers as part of its monthly community fund.
Bicester Widows and Widowers is made up of 30 men and women aged from 60 to 80 years old, who meet once a month at the Methodist Church on Sheep Street to host quizzes, play games and go out for lunches and coffee in Bicester and Oxford.
Their aim is to provide friendship to others in the local community who have suffered the loss of a partner, and provide them with someone to chat to.
The £700 donation from Mulberry Homes, which is building new homes at its Launton Mews development in Launton, will fund the group’s summer holiday in Bournemouth.
The contribution comes as part of The Mulberry Community Chest, in which the developer provides monthly donations to organisations and charities local to its developments. Bicester Widows and Widowers was selected as the chosen charity for February to receive a donation.
Wendy Reeves, Treasurer of Bicester Widows and Widowers, said: “We are truly grateful for the funds from Mulberry Homes. At Bicester Widows and Widowers, our members rely on us to provide a cup of tea or coffee, and some of our members don’t go out aside from our monthly meetings.
“We always have a fantastic time whenever we can travel further afield than Oxfordshire, and we’re very excited to visit Bournemouth in the summer. Thank you to Mulberry Homes for this donation.”
Kerry Jones, Sales and Marketing Director at Mulberry Homes, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Bicester Widows and Widowers. This wonderful group provide others in the local community with friendship and support, which is increasingly important during the ongoing pandemic. We hope that all the members have a wonderful summer holiday!
“This is the second donation we’re making under The Mulberry Community Chest scheme, and we’re looking forward to making many more contributions throughout the year.”
As part of The Mulberry Community Chest, charities and public organisations local to Mulberry Homes’ developments are invited to apply to receive a one-off donation of £1 to £1000. Each month, a judging panel will select a beneficiary to secure the requested funding. For more information or to submit an application, visit https://mulberryhomes.co.uk/news/distinctly-local/.
