Botched Face Fillers On The Increase Warns Expert

“Beware the cosmetic cowboys.”

In a stark warning released today, Amish Patel, an award-winning aesthetics practitioner and founder of one of the South-East’s prestigious aesthetics and skin care clinics, Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic, warns of the tidal wave of botched fillers due to hit consumers over the next year.

The combination of the cost of living, coupled with the lack of legislation, means that most consumers are unaware of the risks they are taking when they have dermal face fillers, as Amish explains;

“Since the cost of living crisis hit, we have seen a 30% increase in referrals for consumers who have had botched filler work and require remedial and dissolving work approaching the clinic. The majority had not done any prior research on the individual injecting their face, citing that a ‘low price’ was the incentive for undertaking the treatment.”

“Unfortunately, professional clinical premises, staff, training, quality products, insurances etc., all cost money, but if I were to skip all this and had not invested thousands into aesthetics training and set up in a shed in my garden, I could easily undercut everyone, but it doesn’t mean you or your face would be in safe, professional, hygienic hands.”

“We often hear that the victims of dermal filler disfigurement contacted the injector post-treatment with their concerns and received zero aftercare or interest. Once they have your money, often they don’t care. They can easily set up another Instagram account under a different name and start up again without repercussions.”

Current legislation means anyone can buy some filler over the web and start injecting your face tomorrow with little or no training. The risks are enormous, as Amish explains;

“Most of the cases we see are disfigurement issues- overfilled duck lips, asymmetric lip, and check fillers of the wrong type of filler in the wrong injection areas, but the risks can also include tissue death and blindness, which are not reversible and life-changing. The face is a network of veins and arteries, so you need to know facial anatomy and have the expertise of navigating safely around the face.”

And if you thought that remedial work was a quick fix, Amish has some bad news;

“Most remedial work will involve dissolving the filler. But not all filler is the same; some are harder, if not impossible, to dissolve. When dealing with a remedial client, we have to be careful when we go about corrective work as, in most cases, the client will have no idea what filler was previously used. The dissolving process can take weeks, several appointments, then the cost of refilling – this all comes at a cost both emotionally and financially.”

Amish’s advice is simple;

“Do your research. Ask to see certifications of training and insurance and examples of their work for the procedure you are considering. Choose a practitioner who works out of a clinical environment and someone with a medical background with access to medicines. If there is an emergency, you must know that your injector can deal with it immediately and correctly to avoid major trauma to the face. If someone is offering cheap fillers, they have taken shortcuts somewhere. Some even use low-quality cheap fillers or unwittingly buy fake fillers due to their lack of experience or limited access to better quality filler brands, which are selective about who they supply filler products. Cheap fillers carry a higher risk, won’t produce the best results and won’t last as long. Choosing a Save Face accredited practitioner is a good starting point, and if unsure, don’t risk your face or your money.”
