Bannatyne Health Club & Spa Bury St Edmunds has opened a new restaurant featuring an evening menu that is totally plant-based.

Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea menus also have plant-based dishes on offer.

The new restaurant – Woodlands, has a variety of meat alternatives for classic dishes including beer battered artichoke with hand cut chips, “Woodlands” burger with fries and chilli slaw, and wild mushroom and puy lentil “cottage pie”, in addition to exciting takes on Asian cuisine and dishes with a high protein and fibre content.

Woodlands plant-based menu focuses on tasty meals to cater for a range of diets including gluten free.

Following a plant-based diet is reported to have a number of health benefits including:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Reducing the risk of Type 2 Diabetes
  • Supporting weight loss
  • Reducing the risk of cancer
  • Lowering cholesterol
  • Minimising the risk of stroke
  • Supporting cognitive function

Along with the many health benefits, researchers at Oxford University found that cutting out meat and dairy products could reduce an individual’s food carbon footprint by up to 73%.

Daryl Johnson, general manager at Bannatyne Bury St Edmunds said “We are delighted to be opening Woodlands, and have worked hard to develop a nutritious, healthy and delicious menu that everyone will love whether they are vegan or not. It will be a true dining experience with a difference here at Woodlands.

“Our menu features a plant-based twist on classic dishes, as well as introducing different ways of using meat alternatives to offer appetising meals.  We have chosen to create a broad menu containing healthy ingredients rich in fibre and protein, which align perfectly with Bannatyne’s wellness philosophy.”
