Britain’s biggest Bingo brand Buzz Bingo has officially opened in Dover, with a celebration led by a 93-year-old Bingo fan and local resident.

Jean Macfarlane is the Biggin Street Bingo club’s oldest active member and visits at least three times a week, sometimes with her daughter. Jean was invited to join the Buzz Bingo team on Saturday 9th February to perform a special ribbon cutting, officially declaring the club open, and celebrate her 93rd birthday – with all customers in for a chance to win a £500 mega prize draw on the night.

The launch of the new club comes as new research reveals people in the South of England enjoy the comradery of Bingo and play to combat loneliness. “I’ve been coming the club for as long as I can remember,” said Jean.

“Everyone is so lovely, and I meet up with my friends who come to the club – sometimes my daughter comes along as well. I’m very honoured to be the VIP and I guess I’m the oldest member after turning 93 this month.”

Local Marketing Business Partner, Claire Ashton said: “The club could’ve chosen a celebrity or a local dignitary for their opening, but instead they wanted somebody who meant something to the club. That person is Jean who represents all of Buzz Bingo’s Dover customers past and present. Ken, the General Manager recognised this and decided that Jean is the ultimate VIP! It’s a truly fantastic gesture from a club built from its community roots.”

New research compiled by MIDiA Research on behalf of Buzz Bingo has revealed that Bingo fans are happier than most. It showed 70% of Bingo players said that they consider themselves to be happy, compared to 63% of all people. With social media fuelling predominantly negative news, Buzz Bingo believes that the nostalgic game could be an antidote to a deflated nation. Chris Matthews, CEO at Buzz Bingo said: “Bingo appeals to people of all ages, from all walks of life. It’s a fun, safe, judgement-free night out with games, dinner and drinks, all for less than £20. We designed Buzz Bingo clubs to make socialising and being part of a local community easy, and research shows that Bingo players are more likely to have a positive outlook on life than others. Our colleagues are friendly, fun and supportive, and always delighted to help you have a great night out with friends and family.
