As part of National Allotments Week (9th-15th August), housebuilder Barratt Homes has sent a care package to The Cambridgeshire Care Home to help brighten up their outdoor space and spend time gardening.

As the care home had experienced several months without welcoming visitors and the donation to the residence, located close to the homebuilder’s Trumpington Meadows development in Trumpington, provided a mix of entertainment and gardening items for the residents to enjoy now restrictions have been lifted.

Also included within the care package was boxes of chocolates, jigsaw puzzles, puzzle books and a large pack of greetings cards and pens, for the residents to write to friends and family. Now that the care home can receive visitors these can be enjoyed by the residents and their loved ones. So the care home can continue gardening activities with their residents beyond National Allotments Week, the homebuilder also donated gloves, grow bags, compost, gardening tools and cosmos plants.

Yvonne Quigley, Customer Relations Manager at The Cambridgeshire Care Home, said: “We are so grateful to receive this wonderful donation and to know that there are people thinking of us is wonderful. We are very grateful to Barratt Homes, our residents are looking forward to using the gardening items for other planting activities.”

Simon Wood, Managing Director at David Wilson Eastern Counties, said: “We wanted to show our support for key workers and the residents of care homes within the communities in which we build now that the difficult periods of not receiving visitors are easing.

“Our donation of a care package to The Cambridgeshire Care Home is a symbol of togetherness, whilst letting the more vulnerable members of our community know they are in our thoughts.

”Engaging in outdoor activities is time well spent and we hope the gardening items will be well used by the residents for future planting projects.”
