A lovely couple who were recently reunited celebrated Valentine’s Day together with a surprise dinner organised by their care home

Staff at MHA Bradbury Grange organised a surprise dinner for all residents, however one couple, who were recently reunited again thoroughly enjoyed the surprise and being together once again for Valentine’s Day.

The home offers tailored residential care for 50 residents, in a welcoming, supportive and friendly environment.

The kitchen staff at the home prepared a menu including steak and kidney pie and chocolate fudge cake for dessert.

Bernard and June Edwards got married in 1958, and June moved into the home in 2017, with Bernard joining her only two weeks ago.

Mr Edwards, 90, said: “It was a very nice surprise and one that was made even better thanks to having my wife with me.

“I have recently moved into the home on a permanent basis and I am really enjoying my time here.

“The home was decorated with Valentine’s Day themes and it was a lovely dinner and the way the staff performed their duties made us smile.

“It’s been extremely nice seeing June again and being together. One of the secrets to a long and happy marriage is quite simple, you both learn to live with one another.”

Sadie Porteous, home manager said: “On Valentine’s Day we had a special lunch chosen by the residents and it was about spreading love and friendship within the home.

“Residents decorated hearts for our tree of light and wrote messages on the back and we also decorated heart shaped cookies.”

Penny Midson, activity coordinator said: “We decided to do something for all residents, but to be able to make it extra special for June and Bernard was really nice.

“The valentines menu was well received by residents and it turned into a very successful day.

“Bernard gave June a rose and some chocolates and it was really special to have them as part of the day with us.”
