A Hastings based care home organised a barbeque for staff and residents and received a special gift from a former British actress.
A vintage themed barbeque with an Elvis tribute act was organised at MHA Lauriston.
It was a team effort, with volunteers and staff organising the event, and plenty of refreshments including an ice cream van.
Family members of residents also came down to enjoy the day, along with the families of staff members.
During the day, the home received a surprise visit from former British actress Jenny Hanley, best known for being one of the presenters of the ITV children’s magazine programme Magpie, who donated a beautifully decorated fruit basket.
Dionne McEwan, home manager said: “The day was beautiful and even though the weather meant we had to cook the food and then eat it inside, we all had a lot of fun.
“Seeing Jenny Hanley was a totally random surprise.
“She just happened to turn up the day we were having our barbeque and asked if she could donate the fruit basket.
“She was telling staff she won it in a raffle and the fact that she chose us is very special and we were very happy.
“The feedback from relatives and residents was great, everyone enjoyed the day, and it was nice to welcome everyone into the home.
“The Elvis tribute was good, and you could see the residents having a lot of fun.
“Recently we have had some new residents join us, so it was a perfect way for them to get used to other residents and for their families to see what we like to do at the home,”
