Cavell House care home has launched an appeal to the public for old photographs of Shoreham By Sea to ensure the home’s VE Day celebrations can still go ahead despite closing to all visitors.

The care home, on Middle road , is asking for pictures and memorabilia of the surrounding area to help spark conversation between the residents ahead of the anniversary on 8 May.

Reminiscence activities have many proven benefits for the older generations including helping to reduce symptoms of depression, improving communication skills and enhancing self-esteem.

Jack Burt, resident at Cavell care Home  care home, said: “At cavell , we fully understand the importance of stopping our face-to-face contact with visitors to help minimise the risk of us becoming poorly.

“VE Day is an important day for many of us and it’s great that we can think of alternative ways to celebrate like reminiscence activities. Looking back on old pictures of our town will be a great way to mark the special day.

“I’m looking forward to having my favourite tipple with my friends at Cavell Care Home for our ‘only residents allowed’ party!”

Nikki Stevenson, home manager at Cavell care home, said: “Cavell House  is a big part of the community and we are grateful for the fantastic support we receive from the community.

“During this period of uncertainty, we are looking for pictures of our Shoreham by Sea from years gone by or any memorabilia we can use to aid reminiscence activities for our residents. If you’d like to help, then please email them to us so that we can share them with our residents!”
