Airtasker, the local services marketplace, has recognised Rochester carpenter Andrew Leonny as one of its Top Taskers for 2025, after he swapped a fixed workplace routine for a more flexible way of earning.

Andrew Leonny, 30, signed up to Airtasker in summer 2024 after his wife spotted the local services marketplace on Instagram and suggested he give it a try. At the time, he was working front-of-house at a London museum and picking up translation work, using his English, Spanish and Portuguese, but he says the fixed routine started to feel limiting.

What began as an experiment quickly became his main line of work. Andrew now takes on a mix of carpentry, handyman jobs and more design-led projects, from everyday tasks around the home to building custom media walls. Many of his tasks on the platform are larger projects that can take up to three days, rather than quick one-hour fixes. He typically completes two to three tasks a week and says he earns between £2,000 and £3,000 a month through the platform, while maintaining a five-star customer rating.

For Andrew, the biggest change has been what the flexibility makes possible at home. With a young child and a newborn, he says being able to plan work around family life has brought a better balance than his previous role.

“It made me realise I don’t have to work in the same place every day,” he said. “I can choose when and how I work, which means I can be at home more with my wife and children.”

He’s particularly drawn to briefs where customers are open to ideas. One of his favourite jobs started with a simple post from a client who had space to fill but no clear plan. Andrew designed and built a bespoke workspace for them, turning an unused area into something practical, and personal, to the household.

Airtasker Founder and CEO Tim Fung commented, “The annual Top Tasker Awards celebrate the people who keep communities moving, the skilled locals who show up, solve problems and earn trust job after job. This year’s winners are a brilliant snapshot of what’s happening across the UK: people turning practical skills into real, reliable income, whether it’s alongside another role or as a full-time living.

“From assembling furniture and installing home set-ups to carpentry, gardening and creative art commissions, these Taskers are raising the bar for quality and customer service, and proving flexible work can be a serious career.”

Andrew’s story highlights a growing appetite for work that offers more control over time and routine. For many, practical skills and creative services aren’t just a way to pick up extra cash, they’re becoming a workable path to building a living on more flexible terms.
